Feature graphic maker

Upload your icon, set the gradient, drag the headline and subline into place, export a PNG. The canvas is fixed at Google Play's 1024×500 feature graphic size.

What a feature graphic is for

On Google Play, the feature graphic is the wide banner at the top of a listing. Google shows it only when the listing also has a promo video — it becomes the video's poster frame — and in some editorial placements. If you publish your web app as a Trusted Web Activity and add a YouTube promo, you need one; if you don't add a video, it is still required by the form but rarely seen.

Outside Play, the same 1024×500 image is a good hero for your install page and, cropped, a social header. Designing it once for both saves effort.

Spec

What to put on it

One benefit, five to seven words, in a type size that survives being shrunk to 300 px wide on a phone listing. A subline is optional and should be smaller. The gradient background should use your brand colours — the palette extractor gives you the hex codes — with enough contrast that white text is legible over the whole area, including the lighter end of the gradient.

For a web app specifically, the headline can carry the differentiator that store apps can't claim: "Installs in one tap. No app store." That line does work on an install page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the feature graphic mandatory?

Google Play requires one to complete the store listing form, but only displays it when a promo video is attached or in editorial features.

Can I use a photo as the background?

The tool uses gradients and your icon. For photographic backgrounds, compose in an image editor and keep the text rules above in mind.

Does it export with transparency?

No — Play requires a 24-bit image without alpha, so the export is a flattened PNG.
