About FreeWebToApp
A small team's answer to a question we kept hearing from people who run websites: "how do I make this an app without hiring someone?"
Who we are
FreeWebToApp is built and maintained by SmartrixLabs, an independent software studio. We also build AppMint, an Android app that turns websites, documents and media into apps on the phone itself, and the sibling site FreeWebsiteToApk, which focuses on the Google Play publishing side. This site focuses on installable web apps.
Why this site exists
Progressive web apps have been technically possible for years, but the setup — writing a manifest by hand, getting a service worker right, producing eight icon sizes with maskable padding — is the kind of thing developers do once and small-business owners never get to. We wanted a page where you type a URL and get correct files, with plain-English explanations of what they do, so you are not deploying something you don't understand.
How we treat your data
The builders run in your browser. Your URL, your icon and the generated zip never reach a server we operate. The website itself uses Google Analytics and is funded by display advertising served by Google AdSense; both are described in the privacy policy. We do not sell data and we do not have accounts, so there is nothing to leak.
What we will not do
- Add ads, trackers or a "made with" badge to anything you generate.
- Claim a feature works where it doesn't. Where iOS limits web apps, we say so.
- Invent statistics. You will not find "trusted by 50,000 developers" on this site because we don't measure that and neither does anyone else who says it.
How the guides are written
Every guide is written by the people who maintain the builder, checked against current Chrome, Safari and Google Play behaviour, and dated. When a platform changes something that affects a guide, we update the guide and the updated date. If you find something out of date, email us and we will fix it — that is the most useful thing a reader can do for us.
